2nd Congress of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, January 16 – 18, 2011

On January 16 – 18, 2011, it was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the 2nd Congress of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice on the topic "Separation of Powers and Independence of Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Bodies." This activity, hosted by the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil, in cooperation with the Venice Commission of Council of Europe, was attended by 88 Constitutional Courts, Constitutional Councils and Supreme Courts, as well as 10 regional and linguistic groups from Africa, America, Asia and Europe. Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania was represented in this Congress by a delegation headed by the President of this court, Mr. Bashkim Dedja, and composed of Mr. Sokol Berberi, member, and Mrs. Alma Çomo, Director of Public and International Relations.

The 2nd Congress was organized as a follow-up of the previous Congress and gave the Constitutional Courts and equivalent bodies the opportunity to discuss issues relating to their independence in their relations with other state powers, especially on pressure coming from the executive or the legislative, but at times also from the media. During the Congress, Judge Sokol Berberi held a speech entitled "Separation of powers and independence of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania."
