On 10 July 2020, Ms. Elsa Toska, member of the Constitutional Court of Albania and focal point of the Constitutional Court at the Superior Courts Network (SCN), participated in the online Forum on the topic: “Adapting justice systems to the COVID-19 pandemic and its potential impact on right to a fair trial”.
Various participants and speakers from the ECtHR and from the SCN member courts, discussed about the procedural and concrete steps taken by the ECtHR, as well as other European courts, to adapt to this unprecedented situation and the applicable standards under Article 6 of the ECHR (right to a fair trial). One of the topics that attracted a particular attention was the organization of online hearings and the administration of justice remotely, in order to cope with the situation created by the pandemic COVID-19.
The Supreme Courts Network (SCN), a forum of the ECtHR, is an important communication platform, where courts, through their focal points, develop and strengthen judicial dialogue aiming to respect the standards of human rights at national level throughout Europe.
